Hart Lichtenstein

1. Hart1 LICHTENSTEIN was born between 23 October 1822 in Poland. He married Fannie/Fanny/Fany/Frances/Fredericka D. ISRAELSKY on 21 December 1866 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Fannie was born in 14 March 1839 in Prussia. Hart died on 05 April 1902 in New Orleans, at age 79. Fannie died on 14 March 1903 in New Orleans, at age 64. Hart and Fannie are buried in Metairie Cemetery, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

Fannie was the sister of Augustus Israelsky.

Hart immigrated to the United States before 1850, and was a naturalized citizen. Fannie's immigration year is unknown.

According to census records and city directories, Hart was a merchant (1850/1860), dry goods merchant (1870), cotton broker (1880), and "comen mch" (?) (1900).

Hart appeared as a single man on the 1850 census in Pike County, Mississippi; with his family on the 1860 census in Copiah County, Mississippi; and with his family on the 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

        Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, at age 56. He married Louise H. Dantonet on
        19 April 1900 in New Orleans. The name on his Missouri death certificate was
        David M. LIGHTON.
  9.     Solomon M./Saul W. LICHTENSTEIN, born in October 1875 in Louisiana; died
        16 November 1931, probably in New Orleans, at age 56. He is buried in Metairie
        Cemetery, Orleans Parish.
  10.     Viola A. LICHTENSTEIN, born on 08 February 1879 in New Orleans; died on
        30 April 1905 in New Orleans, at age 26. She married Myer A. LEWIS on 29 March 1904
        in New Orleans. She is buried in Metairie Cemetery, Orleans Parish.
  11.     Edna May LICHTENSTEIN, born in May 1883 in Louisiana; died 14 May 1927 in
        New Orleans, at age 44. She is buried in Metairie Cemetery, Orleans Parish.
  12.     Janette/Finette/Tinette Alma LICHTENSTEIN, born on 4 January 1884 in New Orleans.
        She resided in New Orleans in May 1927.

2. Isaac2 (Hart1) M. LICHTENSTEIN was born between July 1858-June 1859 in Mississippi. He died on 26 April 1924 in New Orleans, at age 66.

According to census records and city directories, Isaac was a cotton clerk (1880).

Isaac appeared in the household of his father on the 1860 census in Copiah County, Mississippi, and on the 1870 and 1880 censuses in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

Isaac has not yet been located on the 1900, 1910 or 1920 censuses.


3. Emma S.2 LICHTENSTEIN was born in January 1861 in Mississippi. She married Joseph BLUM on 12 June 1895 in New Orleans. Joseph was born on 9 December 1846 in Germany. He died on 17 February 1910 in Crowley, Acadia Parish, Louisiana, at age 63. Emma died on 31 October 1932 in New Orleans, at age 71.

Joseph immigrated to the United States in 1869, and was a naturalized citizen.

According to census records, Joseph was a dealer of general merchandise (1900). Between 1890 and 1905, Joseph was a partner with Abe KAPLAN in a mercantile business known as Kaplan & Blum.

Emma appeared in the household of her father on the 1870 and 1880 censuses in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; with her husband on the 1900 census, and her son on the 1910 census, in Crowley, Acadia Parish, Louisiana; with her son on the 1920 census in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin; and with her son on the 1930 census in New Orleans.

In May 1927, she resided in Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi.

Emma's age and birth years decreased as she aged: on the 1870 census, she was 9; on the 1880 census she was 18; at her marriage in 1895, she was 30 (but was really 34); on the 1900 census, she was 34 (but was really 39); on the 1910 census, she was 40 (but was really 49); on the 1920 census, she was 51 (but was really 59); on the 1930 census, she was 74 (but was really 69 - an anomaly in this list); and at her death in 1932, she was 66 (but was really 71).

Children of Emma S. LICHTENSTEIN and Joseph BLUM were as follows:

  1. Walter Leo3 BLUM, born on 7 April 1898 in New Orleans. According to census records, Walter was a student (1920), and a book keeper for an automobile company (1930). According to his World War I draft registration, he was a medical student (1918).
  2. unknown child, born and died between 1900 and 1910 (Emma was mother of 1, 1 living in 1900; mother of 2, 1 living in 1910).

4. Rebecca2 LICHTENSTEIN was born in April 1863 in Mississippi. She married Abe/Abram/Abrom KAPLAN on 7 March 1894 in New Orleans. Abe was born in September 1866 in either Germany, Poland or Russia. He died 30 March 1944 in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, at age 77. Rebecca died on 28 August 1931 in Acadia Parish, at age 68. She is buried in Metairie Cemetery, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

According to census records, Abe was a president of a rice mill (1900), a manager of a rice mill (1910), and a farmer (owner) of a rice farm (1920/1930). He immigrated to the United States in either 1872 (1930), 1875 (1900), 1885 (1920), or 1888 (1910), and was a naturalized citizen.

Rebecca appeared in the household of her father on the 1870 and 1880 censuses in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana; and with her husband on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses in Crowley, Acadia Parish, Louisiana.

Rebecca's age and birth years decreased as she aged: on the 1870 census, she was 7; on the 1880 census she was 16; at her marriage in 1894, she was 26 (but was really 31); on the 1900 census, she was 32 (but was really 37); on the 1910 census, she was 41 (but was really 47); on the 1920 census, she was 50 (but was really 56); on the 1930 census, she was 60 (but was really 66); and at her death in 1931, she was 62 (but was really 68).

Children of Rebecca LICHTENSTEIN and Abe/Abram/Abrom KAPLAN were as follows:

  1. Irving Bernard3 KAPLAN, born on 18 February 1895 in New Orleans; died on 22 September 1947 in Acadia Parish, at age 52. According to census records, he was clerical - office rice co. (1920) and superintendent - Hunter Canal Co. (1930).

5. Pauline2 LICHTENSTEIN was born in September 1865 in Mississippi. She married Sidney MYERS on 19 August 1896 in New Orleans. Sidney was born in May 1865 in Mississippi.

In 1900, they resided in Leon County, Texas. Pauline died between 1902-1910, probably in Texas.

According to census records, Sidney was a merchant (1900).

Pauline's age and birth years decreased as she aged: on the 1870 census, she was 4; on the 1880 census she was 14; at her marriage in 1896, she was 26 (but was really 30); and on the 1900 census, she was 27 (but was really 34).
